Raising Awareness on NRG Media with Ed Thompson
Today I had the honor of joining Ed Thompson on NRG Media to talk about an issue that is both urgent and deeply personal: human trafficking in Omaha. I’m grateful for every chance to sit down with community voices like Ed to share the realities of trafficking and how each of us can take action.
This interview was extra special because Ed recently received an NRG investigative reporting award for his interview with me last year. It’s an honor to see this topic recognized as one worthy of serious journalism and community attention.
Human Trafficking Is Closer Than We Think
During the interview, I highlighted that trafficking is not only a global crisis, but it is happening in our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. Many people don’t realize how vulnerable youth and women in Omaha can become targets, which is why open conversations on local media are so critical.
Community Education: Truth Uncovered Sessions
I also shared about Innocence Freed’s Truth Uncovered sessions, which we hold every other month. These free events are designed to open eyes, answer hard questions, and give families the tools to recognize red flags. Survivors, experts, and law enforcement partners come together in these sessions, making them an invaluable resource for the public.
The Work of Innocence Freed
At Innocence Freed, we provide aftercare and long-term support for survivors of sex trafficking and exploitation. Our team walks with women and children as they rebuild their lives—through therapy, mentorship, equine-assisted learning, and practical assistance like housing, clothing, and court advocacy. Every step is about restoring hope and dignity.
A New Beginning Gala – October 2, 2025
We also talked about our upcoming “A New Beginning Gala: Let There Be Light”, happening on October 2 at The Astro Theater in La Vista. This evening will bring together music, survivor testimonies, and community leaders who believe in the power of restoration. Funds raised will directly support programming for survivors right here in Nebraska.
I am thankful to Ed Thompson and NRG Media for opening the door to such an important conversation. By working together—through awareness, education, and action—we can bring freedom and light into places of darkness.
